Case Conclusion Date: September 2019

Practice Area: Family Estate Disputes

Outcome: Client received payment of $190,000 lump sum, deed for life estate, and personal property

Description: We represented the surviving spouse of the decedent in a dispute involving the validity and enforceability of a premarital agreement. Under the terms of the premarital agreement, our client was entitled to a $190,000 lump sum payment from her husband's estate, life rights to their home, and certain personal property. However, the co-executors of the decedent's estate refused to satisfy their obligations, leading to proceedings before the Commissioner of Accounts and circuit court. After our client prevailed in both forums, the co-executors paid our client the $190,000 lump sum, signed a deed recognizing our client's life estate, and worked out issues involving the personal property to which our client was entitled.
