Here at The Mottley Law Firm, we had a terrific 2025.  Indeed, it was the best year we've had since I started the firm in 2009, almost 17 years ago.  As I close out the year, I cannot help but feel immense gratitude for the many people I've encountered over the years I've been in practice.  That is especially true for those who have referred cases to us in the past, and who have trusted us to make them look good in the eyes of their clients.  That means everything to us and, trust me, we do not take our referral partners for granted.

Anyone who has started and operated a law firm knows that it can be a bit of a roller coaster.  As trial lawyers, we also know that a lot of our success (or lack thereof) depends upon things happening to us that are completely out of our control.

Notwithstanding that reality, I encourage you to approach 2026 with a perspective that may be counterintuitive to those in the legal profession.  I encourage you to have faith in what cannot be seen, predicted, or planned.  I encourage you to have an abundance mentality, and to view the opportunities that await you as being more than enough to serve as a foundation for your dreams.

I have been accused of being an optimist.  But I will confess that, like anyone else, I go through darker times when I'm skeptical, full of doubt, and anxious about what's ahead.  Especially in the context of trial work, it is easy for the "parade of horribles" to start marching down Main Street in my mind.

But, in my experience, these negative thoughts seldom produce anything good.  They can lead to paralysis, and they seem to repel success rather than attract it.

Thankfully, I always seem to rally and come back to the fundamental belief that it's all going to work out if I just worry about what I can control and if I have faith.

So, my New Year's wish for you is that you find great success in 2026, but I wish that you find that success with a spirit of faith and in the context of maintaining an abundance mentality.

Happy New Year!
