Earlier this week, the Supreme Court of Virginia held that the trial judge hearing the case over the closing of Sweet Briar College in Amherst, Virginia, committed a legal error when he concluded that the law of trusts does not apply to Sweet Briar College because it is a corporation.  As a result of the ruling, the case is now headed back to the trial court, where the trial judge will reconsider the request of Ellen Bowyer, the Amherst County Attorney, to halt the closing of the school during the pendency of her lawsuit to stop the closing.
